restored in the country. Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister Khum Bahadur Khadka has been released from Dillibazar Jail on Wednesday. Khadka was sentenced to prison for the charges of corruption and misappropriating nation's fund. Following his release, Khadka said that there wasn’t any proof of misusing government funds and irregularities. He clearly remarked that plots were hatched to take him away from general public and politics. He also accused judiciary of doing injustice to him. As the supreme court tagged him guilty providing the verdict to sentence him to the jail he claimed that he is still the central member of the party and that he would abide by the
responsibility bestowed upon him by the party for the Constituent Assembly election. On the occasion, Khadka warned of dire consequences of holding elections by ignoring poll-opposing 33 political parties and added that the major parties should hold responsibility of the result. Khadka received a warm welcome from his hundreds of his supporters thronged Dillibazar prison following the news of his release. A week after being convicted of corruption, Khadka, flanked by his supporters, surrendered before Kathmandu District Court (KDC) in Dillibazaar on August 20 last year. The Supreme Court on Aug 14 had convicted former minister Khadka of corruption charges and sentenced him to 18 months in prison, ordered to fine him Rs 9.47 million and confiscate the property worth the same amount. As per legal provisions, Khadka got a 20 percent waiver in both the sentence and the fine after he surrendered within 60 days of the verdict. Khadka had to pay Rs 7.57 million, while his jail term was reduced to 14 months and nine days.
