Locals, police clash over LLRC report in Nuwakot, over dozen injured

Locals protesting the report prepared by Local Level Restructuring Commission have clashed with security personnel at Nuwakot district headquarters Bidur on Friday. More than one dozens from both sides have been injured in the clash.

Locals have took to protest starting today against the Commission’s report. Police fired few bullets in the air and used rubber bullets to contain the agitating crowd.

The LLRC prepared the report in contrary to district technical committee’s recommendation and excluded Likhu village council from the local structure. This triggered anger among locals especially from the district’s eastern side. They were protesting against the provision for the past six days.

The agitated mob vandalised an office of District Development Committee and damaged few vehicles. They set fire on office furnitures.

The district-based Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Centre), among other political parties, are spearheading the protest. NC local leader Binod Pathak said they would continue the protest till their demands are met.

In Nuwakot, LLRC report has recommended two municipalities and 10 village councils.
